Published:

Exciting news has emerged for aspiring Nigerian scholars as six exceptional students have recently been granted the prestigious Vanier scholarship, opening doors to a transformative educational experience in Canada.

On August 29, 2023, the Canadian government announced the winners.

In order to position Canada as a hub for cutting-edge research and teaching on a worldwide scale, the Vanier CGS program, launched in 2008, intends to draw and keep excellent PhD candidates.

The program is jointly run by Canada’s three largest grant-making organizations: the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC), and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC).

The six Nigerian academics Chukwu Otuto Amarauche, Fatiregun Omolara, Iduye Damilola, Itanyi Ijeoma, Kehinde Abisola, and Ogunsola Samuel will each get an N45 million Vanier Scholarship, allowing them to pursue their doctorate degrees in various prestigious Canadian universities.

The scholarship is for a three-year period, during which the scholars will explore a variety of research areas, including the social and humanities, engineering, and health sciences.
