Airtel, a leading telecommunications company, is poised to inaugurate NXtra, a cutting-edge data centre, with the first site slated for unveiling in Lagos on March 12. This move is aimed at revolutionizing data management and co-location infrastructure services across the African continent.
The unveiling ceremony, scheduled at Eko Atlantic, Victoria Island, Lagos, anticipates the presence of distinguished guests including the Governor of Lagos state, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, his Ogun state counterpart, Prince Dapo Abiodun, and the Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani.
Commenting on the initiative, Segun Ogunsanya, Chief Executive Officer at Airtel Africa, emphasized the significance of NXtra in fostering business growth and advancing prosperity in Africa. “NXtra is a critical next step towards unlocking greater opportunities for businesses to grow and help drive prosperity across Africa,” Ogunsanya stated. “As a company, we are proud to deliver another vital infrastructure to bring the benefits of technology closer to Africans.”
The Lagos facility, boasting a robust 34MW capacity, is designed to operate with exceptional efficiency, featuring a remarkable Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) score of 1.3 while accommodating high-density racks.
Carl Cruz, Chief Executive Officer of Airtel Nigeria, expressed excitement about the official launch of the NXtra Data Center, emphasizing its potential to benefit customers in Lagos, Nigeria’s commercial hub. “We are certain that this infrastructure will propel Lagos, and Nigeria, towards a sustainable and more inclusive digital age,” Cruz affirmed.
