Apple introduces advanced “clean up” tool in latest iOS 18.1 Beta for seamless photo editing

Published:

Apple has introduced a range of new features in its latest developer betas for iOS 18.1, iPadOS 18.1, and macOS 15.1, with a particular emphasis on enhancing photo editing tools.

A key highlight is the innovative “Clean Up” tool, integrated into the native Photos app, which provides users with the ability to remove unwanted elements from their images seamlessly.

The Clean Up feature enables users to remove distractions from their photos by simply selecting an object or drawing over it. Apple’s advanced system intelligently fills in the background where the object was removed, taking into account shadows, reflections, and the overall composition to ensure a seamless edit. This tool offers a powerful, yet user-friendly, solution for enhancing photos directly on iPhone, iPad, and Mac devices.

While similar features, such as Google’s Magic Eraser, have been available on other platforms, Apple’s Clean Up is uniquely designed to integrate deeply with the existing Photos app. This integration allows for a more convenient and cohesive user experience, especially for those already familiar with Apple’s ecosystem.

Currently, the Clean Up tool is available exclusively to users in the United States who own the latest iPhone 15 Pro, Pro Max models, or M1-powered devices. Apple plans to roll out these features more broadly with the release of iOS 18.1 in October, following the expected September launch of iOS 18 alongside the iPhone 16.

In addition to the Clean Up tool, iOS 18.1 introduces enhancements to Apple Intelligence features, such as expanded notification summaries for all apps and improved natural language search capabilities within the Photos app.
