The Abdul Samad Rabiu Africa Initiative (ASR Africa), spearheaded by BUA Group Chairman, has initiated the construction of a N250 million administrative block and conference theatre at Al-Qalam University in Katsina State.
This project is part of ASR Africa’s commitment to supporting tertiary education in Nigeria through its Tertiary Education Grant Scheme (TEGS), which encompasses 22 tertiary institutions across the country.
During the ceremonial ground-breaking of the project, Dr. Ubon Udoh, Managing Director of ASR Africa, reiterated the organization’s dedication to education, emphasizing that the chairman of ASR Africa pledges $100 million annually to support various sectors, including health, education, and social development, in Nigeria and Africa as a whole.
Udoh explained that Al-Qalam University was selected as a beneficiary of the grant based on rigorous criteria, including performance, vision of the management structure, and NUC ranking. The university received over N250 million in grants to enhance its infrastructure and educational resources.
The ASR Africa initiative aims to empower Africans to take ownership of their solutions, addressing Nigeria’s challenges through home-grown interventions. Udoh assured that the project at Al-Qalam University would be completed within six months, emphasizing the importance of sustainability and ensuring that the infrastructure serves its intended purpose.
In response, Prof. Nasiru Yauri, Vice-Chancellor of Al-Qalam University, expressed gratitude to the chairman of ASR Africa and BUA Group for recognizing the institution’s need for support. He emphasized that the project aligns with the university’s priorities, particularly with the launch of its College of Allied Health Sciences. Upon completion, the infrastructure will benefit students and staff pursuing degrees in various health-related programs.
