Football activities continued across Europe last weekend, with goals and reverting performances entertaining the fans of the game.
Nigerian footballers were not left out of the net-bursting performances in Europe, with a few of them putting in significant displays for their various clubs.
TheCable takes a look at Nigerian footballers who made impacts for their respective clubs over the weekend.
In Serie A, Victor Osimhen began the season with the cold-eyed goalscoring form that earned him the league’s top goalscorer award last term.
He scored a brace as Napoli saw off the newly-promoted Frosinone 3-1 at the Stadio Benito Stirpe on Saturday.
Osimhen scored his first goal of the night after a cut-back from Luca Mazzitelli, and the Nigerian smashed the shot into the roof of the net.
His second came in the 79th minute with Giovanni Di Lorenzo’s through ball, and he finished with aplomb.
The Nigerian leapt highest to meet Serge Aurier’s cross to plant a brilliant header into the net just three minutes into the match.
The strike was Awoniyi’s eighth goal in six consecutive EPL matches, setting the record as the first Nigerian player to achieve the feat.
