EFCC Executive Chairman Ola Olukoyede underscored the importance of international cooperation in tackling financial crimes.

He stated, “This handover demonstrates our commitment to fighting financial crimes and collaborating globally. Financial crimes are borderless, and effective action requires international partnerships.”

Olukoyede detailed that the recovered assets included $164,000 taken from Bogomas Elena and $16,300 from Sandra Butler. He affirmed Nigeria’s stance against financial crimes, noting that the country is not a hub for such activities but a transit point where criminal elements may operate.

Zonal Director Micheal Wetkas elaborated on the recovery process, revealing that the Canadian police initially provided vehicle registration numbers, leading to Operation Hot Wheels.

This operation successfully traced and recovered the stolen vehicles. Additionally, Wetkas explained that the fraudster behind the romance scam involving Bogomas Elena had been convicted, with further investigations ongoing.

Canadian Deputy High Commissioner Robert Aboumitri praised the EFCC’s professionalism and effective partnership in the fight against crime.

He expressed gratitude to the Nigerian government, highlighting the success of their joint efforts.

Olukoyede reaffirmed the EFCC’s dedication to investigating and prosecuting financial crimes, ensuring that victims are compensated for their losses.
