Gboyega Lesi, Chief Executive Officer of Leadway Assurance Company Limited, has issued an urgent call to communities, businesses, and individuals to take proactive measures in anticipation of severe flooding predicted by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).
This warning comes as NEMA’s July report forecasts heightened flooding across 33 states from August through October, urging immediate precautionary actions.
Lesi echoed the concerns outlined by NEMA, emphasizing the critical nature of the flooding threat: “Flooding poses a significant risk to communities throughout Nigeria. The latest report from the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NIMET) underscores the necessity for proactive measures to protect individuals, families, properties, and investments.”
The Nigerian Bureau of Statistics (NBS) highlighted the severity of flood impacts, reporting that the 2022 disaster, described as the worst in decades, resulted in approximately $9.12 billion in direct economic damages. This flood led to extensive destruction of buildings, businesses, households, public infrastructure, and agricultural sectors, underscoring the financial devastation and the urgent need for effective risk management.
Lesi reaffirmed Leadway Assurance’s commitment to supporting Nigerians in recovering swiftly from flood impacts through its specialized insurance solutions. “Our comprehensive insurance policies are designed to offer robust protection, enabling individuals and businesses to recover efficiently after a flood.
We recognize that each flooding event is unique, and our coverage is adaptable to meet various needs and situations.”
