Nigerian government approves increase in passport fees effective September 2024

Published:

The Nigerian Government has approved an upward review of the fees for the country’s passport, which will take effect from September 1, 2024. This development was disclosed in a statement released on Wednesday by Kenneth Udo, the spokesman for the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), via the official X handle of the agency.

According to the statement, the fee increase is aimed at ensuring the quality and integrity of the Nigerian Standard Passport. Udo explained, “As part of its efforts to maintain the quality and integrity of the Nigerian Standard Passport, the Federal Government has approved an upward review of the fees for the passport, effective from September 1, 2024.”

Under the revised fee structure, the 32-page passport booklet with a five-year validity, which was previously charged at N35,000, will now cost N50,000. Similarly, the 64-page passport booklet with a ten-year validity, previously priced at N70,000, will now be N100,000.

While acknowledging the inconvenience this increase may cause to prospective applicants, the Nigeria Immigration Service reassured the public of its unwavering commitment to transparency and quality service delivery. The NIS noted, “We regret any inconvenience this increase might cause prospective applicants but assure Nigerians of our dedication to providing top-notch service at all times.”
