NIMC, NCC forge strategic partnership to enhance NIN-SIM linkage process

Published:

The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) and the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) have announced a strategic partnership aimed at improving processes related to the National Identification Number (NIN)-SIM linkage.

In a joint statement signed by Ayodele Babalola, Technical Adviser, Media, and Communications to the DG/CEO of NIMC, and Reuben Muoka, Director of Public Affairs of NCC, the agencies highlighted their collaboration to streamline the NIN-SIM linkage process.

The partnership seeks to explore synergies and leverage each other’s expertise and resources to enhance the experience for Nigerian telecommunications subscribers. Key objectives include facilitating swift verification and authentication of NINs during SIM registration and activation processes.

To achieve this, the agencies will embark on educational campaigns and training sessions to raise public awareness and understanding of the NIN-SIM linkage requirements. Additionally, NIMC will provide support to NCC by verifying National Identification Numbers (NINs) associated with SIM registrations.

Telecommunication operators will utilize NIMC’s robust database and authentication infrastructure to validate submitted NINs while ensuring the accuracy and integrity of subscriber data. Furthermore, efforts will be made to align policies and regulatory frameworks to facilitate seamless integration of NIN-SIM linkage processes within the telecommunications ecosystem.

This includes harmonizing data protection and privacy regulations to safeguard the confidentiality and security of subscriber information.

By pooling their resources and expertise, NIMC and NCC aim to overcome challenges associated with the NIN-SIM linkage exercise and ensure its continued successful implementation. The strategic partnership underscores a commitment to enhancing service delivery and promoting compliance with regulatory directives for the benefit of telecommunications subscribers in Nigeria.
