NIPR, The Albino Foundation sign MoU to advocate for persons with disabilities

Published:

The Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) and The Albino Foundation (TAF Africa) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to strengthen diplomatic advocacy for persons living with disabilities.

The agreement was announced by Dr. Ike Neliaku, President of the NIPR, who highlighted the institute’s commitment to inclusivity.

As part of this initiative, the NIPR has granted a 50% waiver for persons living with disabilities who wish to join the institute, reflecting its dedication to inclusivity in line with core national values and traditions.

Dr. Neliaku stated, “The NIPR is committed to pursuing inclusivity based on culture, tradition, core national values, virtues, biology, and gender.”

TAF Africa President, Jake Epelle, emphasized the importance of advocacy to promote inclusivity, especially in governance. He noted that Nigeria has over 30 million persons living with disabilities, but the current administration’s level of inclusion through appointments is lacking.

“The level of appointment that reflects inclusion is abysmal and very worrisome,” Epelle remarked.

The signing ceremony in Abuja also included a posthumous award for Dr. Sam Epelle, the founder and first President of the NIPR, honoring him as a ‘Diamond Lifetime Awardee.’ Dr. Sam Epelle, an uncle to Jake Epelle, was recognized for his foundational work and contributions to the institute.
