The scholarship presentation, which took place at the office of ABU’s Vice Chancellor, was a landmark event attended by students and faculty members, symbolising OPay’s commitment to Nigeria’s educational advancement.
Mr Dauda Gotring, Managing Director of OPay and an ABU alumnus, led the event, expressing his pride in contributing to his alma mater.
“For us at OPay, giving back to society, especially through education, is at the heart of what we do,” Gotring said.
“ABU holds a special place in my life, and I am thrilled to give back to students here who show such promise and determination.”
The Vice-Chancellor of ABU, Professor Kabiru Bala, commended OPay’s initiative and highlighted the substantial relief it brings to students.
“This support from OPay lifts a heavy burden off our students, helping them focus on their dreams and academic goals. We are incredibly grateful to OPay for their generosity and partnership,” he stated.
Beyond supporting ABU, OPay has pledged to expand its impact across Nigeria with a goal of assisting 400 students annually.
This ambitious scheme will reach universities nationwide, including the University of Ibadan and Nnamdi Azikiwe University, injecting N120 million each year into Nigeria’s education sector over the next decade.
This funding will create opportunities for students who might otherwise face financial barriers to higher education, cultivating future leaders and innovators.
Additionally, OPay is broadening its social initiatives to empower women through entrepreneurship programmes, startup support, and skills training in Zaria, aiming to foster economic independence and boost local economies.
Founded in 2018, OPay is a leading Nigerian financial institution dedicated to making financial services accessible through technology.
