In a statement released on Tuesday, OPay highlighted the strategic importance of the partnership in reaching underserved communities while simplifying financial services for Nigerians.
“Our partnership with AfriGO aligns perfectly with our goal of simplifying financial services for every Nigerian,” said Dauda Gotring, Managing Director/CEO of OPay.
“The OPay/AfriGO card is not just a product; it’s a powerful tool to reach more Nigerians, particularly those underserved by traditional banking services.
This collaboration offers a more affordable payment option, enables instant transaction settlements, and promotes financial inclusion across the country.”
The Managing Director/CEO of Afrigopay Financial Services Ltd., Ebehijie Momoh, emphasised the transformative potential of this partnership, especially in underserved areas.
“This partnership will transform financial service delivery, particularly in underserved areas. Our agent networks expand coverage by supporting local businesses and offering key banking services like purchases, deposits, withdrawals, and money transfers.
With AfriGO Instant Settlement, merchants and agents will benefit from the immediate finalisation of transactions, leading to greater efficiency, improved cash flow, and reduced risk,” Momoh explained.
AfriGO, Nigeria’s National Domestic Card Scheme, aims to reduce reliance on foreign exchange for payment transactions, strengthen local businesses, and promote data sovereignty.
By employing innovative technology and a customer-centric approach, the scheme seeks to empower the Nigerian financial ecosystem and create new opportunities within the growing card business market.
The OPay/AfriGO card partnership underscores a commitment to making financial services more accessible, particularly for individuals and businesses previously excluded from the formal financial system.
OPay’s collaboration with AfriGO will enable seamless transactions, supported by advanced technology and robust liquidity management.
The initiative is also expected to encourage digital payment adoption by offering Nigerians a secure, cost-effective alternative to international payment cards.
This development aligns with OPay’s broader mission to deliver cutting-edge financial solutions to millions of users.
As OPay continues to expand its services, the partnership with AfriGO is poised to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of payments in Nigeria.
