A Massachusetts woman has been accused of attempting to poison her husband with soup, allegedly influenced by an individual impersonating an actor.
Roxanne Doucette, a resident of Townsend, Massachusetts, is facing serious charges including attempted murder, resisting arrest, and assaulting a police officer.
According to The Guardian, it all began when Doucette received a message from a person posing as an actor from the television series The Bold and the Beautiful. After the two started talking on the phone, the con artist allegedly demanded money from Doucette and advised her to divorce her husband.
The text messages between Doucette and someone — who, it turned out, wasn’t a soap opera star — were later made public by court documents that CBS News was able to obtain.
“You have to get rid of your husband honey – I need you so much,” one text message from the pretend celebrity said.
“Making an amazing soup. Special potion,” Doucette replied. “Maybe I could collect life insurance.”
Paul, the 73-year-old spouse of Doucette, went unconscious and ended up in the hospital.
The Townsend police chief, James Sartell, the public to avoid making hasty judgements regarding the incident and cautioned the community, especially the elderly, about potential scammers.
“Matters like this, they draw intense interest, but the fact of the matter is, these are real people, real victims and real perpetrators,
“We have to take a step back and do a holistic overview,” Sartell said.
