Toyyib Adelodun, a personal development coach residing in London, recently shared his perspective on the implications of the new UK health worker visa rules for migrants, particularly Nigerian nationals.
During an exclusive interview with Channels TV, Adelodun elaborated on how the revised visa regulations, announced on Wednesday, March 13th, 2023, would directly affect Nigerian health workers in the UK.
Adelodun noted that the new rule would mean exclusion of family members or dependents from the care workers’ visa coverage.
Adelodun explained that the new visa rule for overseas health workers means that “if you are a master’s student already residing in the UK with your dependents, transitioning into the category of care workers or senior care workers would result in your dependents being ineligible to stay with you under that visa.”
He also explained that the most devastating thing is that if a spouse gets a care sponsorship and the other spouse gets a care sponsorship, what happens to the children?
When asked if the rule was too harsh, Adelodun said the rule is harsh.
He explained that the new visa rule would be depriving a lot of the overseas care workers who are married and studying access to their families.
Adelodun insists that those overseas health care workers who are also studying need their families to support their mental health.
He concludes that it is unfair to deprive people who are taking care of elderly people, young children, and even people with mental health as well and contributing to the economy to be denied access to their families.
